The school began in 1933 with 36 students studying in two small cottages on Ambrose Street. Four years later another house was purchased on Dracena Street to accommodate the 7th and 8th grade classes. Work on the present school building began in 1949. From its beginning until 1968, the school was staffed by the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart; it is presently served by dedicated lay and religious teachers and staff. Catholic, co-ed elementary school for grades Kindergarten through 8th with an emphasis on Christian values. Open House for prospective students is the last Sunday in January. Our school is located around the corner from the parish at 4622 Ambrose Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90027. Our office is open, during the school year, from 7:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.–Monday thru Friday
Our Mother of Good Counsel School is a unique school that blends many cultures together in a harmonious unit. You are able to see this blend not only within the student body but also within
the faculty. The school has been in the Los Feliz neighborhood for 80 years and has an outstanding reputation of providing an excellent education to its students. The majority of its students not only go on to highly academic high schools but also graduate from top universities and colleges throughout the United States.
OMGC School has a highly involved student body and group of parents who help in the numerous activities which take place each month. The school ensures that a strong Catholic identity is maintained through the various religious activities which occur daily and monthly at the school. It helps students to develop a sense of belonging and a sense of Christian responsibility to the greater community.
The faculty and administration feel it is important to build community among the school groups to develop camaraderie and a feeling of belonging. Many of the students inform their parents that they do not want to be absent from school because they don’t want to miss any exciting activities.
