St. Patrick School

Bio

St. Patrick School was opened in September of 1952 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), with Mother Wilfrid as superior, in an area that was once vineyards and farmlands. Father Joseph L. Bauer was the pastor of the parish. Within two years, the school graduated its first class (1954), boasted eight classrooms with 280 students in grades 1 through 8, and a faculty of seven sisters and one lay teacher. The RSHM sisters served until the close of the 1986-87 school term.

In 1977, a kindergarten was established, and an extended-care program was adopted in 1988. To prepare students for kindergarten, an accredited pre-school was opened in January of 2000 with both a standard schedule, to coincide with the K-8 school, and extended day, to accommodate working families. A pre-kindergarten (PK) program was opened in 2006, and a transitional kindergarten (TK) in 2015. At the start of the 2016-17 school year, 43% of St. Patrick students are Kindergarten age or younger, and school enrollment surpassed 200 for the first time since 2012.

St. Patrick School is a stabilizing structure in Los Angeles’ East Valley area. The school has graduated more than 2,800 students prepared to succeed in high school and in life, many of whom become the first in their family to graduate from high school and attend college.

Our Aim: Heaven, College, Career

Our vision, as educators of Saint Patrick School, is to prepare our students for the future, for higher Catholic education, for life, and for service to others. We are adopting a culture for learning and a 21st-century learning environment. The quality of a St. Patrick education encompasses spiritual and academic growth, research-based curricular practices, and technology. We collaborate with parents, parish, and the broader community to create a welcoming family environment guided by a sense of mission to improve lives and sustain the Body of Christ.

St. Patrick School will expand, be nourished by, and form relationships with a diverse body of partners and contributors. We seek to sustain the core of our mission and values while improving our facilities, augmenting our curriculum, and enriching our programs.

Father Nicolas Sanchez is the current Pastor of St. Patrick Parish and the School’s principal, Raquel Shin, leads a team of 20 full- and part-time lay teachers and staff. St. Patrick School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA).
